Languages for customers

Cliedesk can talk to customers in their own language. Admins add the languages of the workspace in Settings → Workspace & brands → Languages.

Chat widget and portal

The chat widget and the customer portal show their texts in the language of the page. Cliedesk uses the WordPress language, or the language of WPML or Polylang when one of them is active. Arabic and Hebrew are shown right to left.

To change a text in one language only:

  • Chat widget: go to Settings → Channels → Chat widget → Texts and languages, pick a Language and change the text. See Chat widget.
  • Customer portal: use the setting portal.texts. See the Settings reference.

A change for one language does not change the other languages.

Saved replies

A saved reply can have a version for each language. A conversation gets the version in the customer’s language. When there is no version in that language, Cliedesk uses the version in the default language. See Saved replies and macros. Translating replies on their own, and marking versions that are out of date, are available with Cliedesk Pro.

Help-center articles

An article can have translations. Cliedesk takes them from WPML or Polylang when one is active. Without them, Cliedesk links the translations itself: each article stores its language and its translations, linked both ways.

Published translations get:

  • Links in the page head that tell search engines about the other languages (hreflang).
  • A language switcher. Add the Help-center languages block to a page, or use the article template, which already has it.

See Help center setup.
