Cliedesk vs Zendesk

Cliedesk vs Zendesk: a Zendesk alternative that runs inside WordPress.

Zendesk is a hosted customer service platform priced per agent, with AI agents billed per resolution. Cliedesk is a Zendesk alternative for WordPress: a help desk plugin that runs in your own WordPress site, with unlimited agents and AI on your own provider key. If your business runs on WordPress or WooCommerce, Cliedesk keeps support next to your orders and your data. If you need a hosted platform with a large app marketplace, Zendesk is built for that.

Which one fits you?

Choose Cliedesk if…

  • Your site or store runs on WordPress or WooCommerce
  • You want unlimited agents without per-seat fees
  • You want AI on your own key, with no fee per resolution
  • You want support data in your own database
  • You want the AI to handle WooCommerce refunds and order changes within limits you set

Choose Zendesk if…

  • You don’t run WordPress, or want support fully separate from your website
  • You want a hosted service the vendor operates for you
  • You rely on apps from a large help desk marketplace
  • You need Zendesk’s enterprise plans and sales-led onboarding

What a year costs

Licence cost for one support site, before AI usage.

  • 3 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Zendesk Suite Team ($55 per agent a month, annual)
    $1,980
  • 10 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Zendesk Suite Team ($55 per agent a month, annual)
    $6,600
  • 25 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Zendesk Suite Team ($55 per agent a month, annual)
    $16,500

Formula: Zendesk = agents × $55 × 12. Cliedesk Pro is priced per site, so the agent count doesn’t change it; the free plugin costs $0. AI usage is extra on both: on Cliedesk you pay your AI provider’s token cost directly; on Zendesk, automated resolutions beyond the included amount cost $1.50–$2.00 each. Zendesk’s Support Team plan ($19 per agent a month) covers email ticketing only.

When Zendesk is the better choice

If your business doesn’t run on WordPress, Cliedesk isn’t the right tool — it lives inside a WordPress site. Zendesk works with any website and any stack.

Zendesk is a hosted service: you don’t manage updates, hosting or backups. With Cliedesk, your WordPress host and your team are responsible for that.

Large organisations that need sales-led enterprise contracts or a big app marketplace will find more of that at Zendesk.

Using Zendesk with WordPress?

Zendesk’s plugin for WordPress, “Zendesk Support for WordPress”, adds the Zendesk web widget, turns blog comments into tickets, shows tickets in the WordPress dashboard and offers single sign-on. Its WordPress.org listing shows it was last updated in 2023 and has not been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases.

Cliedesk takes a different approach: the help desk itself is part of your WordPress site. Customers are recognised from their WordPress login, orders are read live from WooCommerce, and the help center is ordinary WordPress content.

Migration

Moving from Zendesk

Cliedesk Pro includes a Zendesk importer. You see a preview with counts and sample conversations before anything is imported, it runs in the background, and you can roll it back. A delta sync keeps new Zendesk conversations coming in while you switch over.

How switching works

In the free plugin: unlimited agents, the shared inbox, live chat, request forms, the customer portal and the help center. Cliedesk Pro adds: the AI agent and copilot on your own key, incoming email, more channels, SLAs, WooCommerce order actions and the Zendesk importer.

Search the docs →Get support →
Is Cliedesk a full Zendesk replacement?

For teams on WordPress, it covers the core: shared inbox, live chat, email, a help center, a customer portal, automation, SLAs, reports and AI. It doesn’t have a marketplace of third-party apps like Zendesk’s.

How does AI pricing compare?

Zendesk lists automated resolutions at $1.50 (committed) or $2.00 (pay as you go) after the included amount. Cliedesk charges no fee per resolution: the AI runs on your own AI provider key, and you pay that provider for the tokens you use. Budgets and hard caps keep that cost under control.

Where is my data with Cliedesk?

In your own WordPress database, on the hosting you choose. Data leaves your site only for services you connect yourself, such as your AI provider or email provider.

Can I import my Zendesk tickets?

Yes, with Cliedesk Pro. The importer brings over contacts, organizations, conversations, notes, attachments, tags, fields and saved replies, with a preview first and rollback afterwards.

Does Cliedesk work without WooCommerce?

Yes. WooCommerce is optional; Cliedesk works on any WordPress site.
