Cliedesk vs Intercom

Cliedesk vs Intercom: an Intercom alternative for WordPress.

Intercom is a hosted customer service platform with per-seat pricing and its Fin AI Agent billed per outcome. Cliedesk is a help desk plugin inside your WordPress site, with unlimited agents and an AI agent that runs on your own AI provider key. Intercom suits teams that want a polished hosted messenger for any stack; Cliedesk suits teams whose business already runs on WordPress or WooCommerce.

Which one fits you?

Choose Cliedesk if…

  • Your site or store runs on WordPress or WooCommerce
  • You want unlimited agents without per-seat fees
  • You want AI costs to follow your own token usage, not a price per outcome
  • You want support data in your own database
  • You want SLAs without moving to a top plan

Choose Intercom if…

  • Your product isn’t built on WordPress
  • You want a hosted service the vendor operates for you
  • You want Intercom’s messenger inside a web or mobile app
  • You prefer a predictable price per AI outcome over managing an AI provider account

What a year costs

Seat or licence cost for one support site, before AI usage.

  • 3 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Intercom Advanced ($85 per seat a month)
    $3,060
  • 10 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Intercom Advanced ($85 per seat a month)
    $10,200
  • 25 agents

Cliedesk Pro (Agent plan, 1 site)
    $49
Intercom Advanced ($85 per seat a month)
    $25,500

Formula: Intercom = seats × $85 × 12, using the listed Advanced price. Cliedesk Pro is priced per site, so the agent count doesn’t change it; the free plugin costs $0. AI is extra on both: Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, and on Cliedesk you pay your AI provider’s token cost directly. We don’t estimate AI totals because they depend on your volume.

When Intercom is the better choice

If your product is a SaaS or mobile app not built on WordPress, Intercom is designed for that: its messenger lives inside your app, and support runs fully separate from your website.

Intercom is hosted, so there are no plugin updates or server resources to manage. With Cliedesk, your WordPress host and your team look after that.

Some teams prefer paying a fixed price per AI outcome to setting up their own AI provider account and budget. Intercom’s model gives you that.

Using Intercom with WordPress?

Intercom’s WordPress plugin adds the Intercom Messenger and Fin to your site. Its WordPress.org listing shows it hasn’t been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases.

With Cliedesk, the help desk itself is part of WordPress: the chat widget, the customer portal and the help center use your site’s login, theme and pages, and WooCommerce orders are read live next to each conversation.

Migration

Moving from Intercom

Cliedesk Pro includes an Intercom importer. A preview shows counts and sample conversations before anything is imported, the import runs in the background, and you can roll it back. A delta sync brings over new Intercom conversations while you switch.

How switching works

In the free plugin: unlimited agents, the shared inbox, live chat, request forms, the customer portal and the help center. Cliedesk Pro adds: the AI agent and copilot on your own key, incoming email, more channels, SLAs, workflows and the Intercom importer.

Frequently asked questions

Search the docs →Get support →
Is Cliedesk an alternative to Fin?

Yes, for WordPress sites. The Cliedesk Pro AI agent answers from your help center and can take actions such as preparing WooCommerce refunds, with a person approving by default. It runs on your own AI provider key instead of a price per outcome.

How does the cost of AI compare?

Intercom lists Fin at $0.99 per outcome. With Cliedesk you pay your AI provider for the tokens used, and you can set budgets and hard caps. Which is cheaper depends on your volume and the model you choose.

Does Cliedesk have a chat widget like the Intercom Messenger?

Yes. The free plugin includes live chat on your site, and logged-in customers are recognised automatically from their WordPress account.

Can I import my Intercom conversations?

Yes, with Cliedesk Pro. The importer brings over contacts, companies, conversations, notes, attachments and tags, with a preview first and rollback afterwards.
