In short

  • All five plugins here run inside WordPress and keep tickets in your own database. None of them charges per agent on the pages we checked.
  • Cliedesk includes live chat, a customer portal and a help center in the free plugin; Cliedesk Pro adds an AI agent on your own AI key. It is also the newest plugin in this list.
  • Fluent Support and SupportCandy are well-rated ticketing plugins with long track records. Awesome Support has a free core and paid add-ons. JS Help Desk puts every paid pack in each plan.
  • Prices are as of October 2026, with a source link for each.

This article is written by the Cliedesk team at Degird. Cliedesk is our product, so read it with that in mind. We have tried to be fair: every fact about another plugin links to the page we took it from, and we say where another plugin is the better choice.

We only included real help desk plugins, meaning tools that manage support tickets or conversations. Knowledge base plugins and contact form plugins are useful, but they are not help desks, so they are not here.

How we compared them

For each plugin we looked at five things:

  • What it is and how it is sold (free plugin, paid plan, add-ons).
  • Strengths, based on what the vendor lists.
  • Limits, meaning features the vendor’s own pages don’t list, or things that cost extra.
  • Pricing as of October 2026, from the vendor’s pricing page or WordPress.org listing.
  • Who it suits best.

Install counts and ratings come from each plugin’s WordPress.org page, as of October 2026. Prices are list prices for a year unless we say otherwise. Several vendors showed sale prices when we checked; we mention them, but they change often.

If a fact could not be confirmed on the vendor’s own page, we left it out.

The short version: a comparison table

Plugin Free version Live chat with agents AI for customers Paid pricing (as of October 2026) Best for

Fluent Support Ticketing with unlimited agents Not listed Not listed; AI tools are for agents (Pro) From $129 a year (1 site), list price Email-style ticketing, sites using other Fluent plugins

The plugins, one by one

Cliedesk

What it is. A help desk plugin by Degird, with a free plugin on WordPress.org and a paid Cliedesk Pro.

Strengths. The free plugin has no limits on agents, conversations or contacts, and no paid seats. It includes a shared inbox, live chat, request forms, a customer portal, a help center, one-step rules, business hours, CSAT and WooCommerce order context next to conversations. Support data stays in your WordPress database. Cliedesk Pro adds an AI agent that answers customers and an AI copilot for agents, all running on your own AI provider key (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini and others, or a model on your own server), with no per-resolution fee from Cliedesk. Pro also adds incoming email, WhatsApp, social and SMS channels, workflows, SLA policies, WooCommerce refunds, cancellations and order changes within limits you set, and importers from other help desks.

Limits. Cliedesk is newer than the other plugins here, so it has fewer public reviews and a shorter track record. Receiving email is a Pro feature: the free plugin sends email, and customers answer in the portal. All AI needs Pro, and you pay your AI provider for what you use.

Pricing as of October 2026. Every Pro plan includes every Pro feature; plans differ only by number of sites. Yearly: $49 (Agent, 1 site), $99 (Copilot, 10 sites), $149 (Autopilot, 100 sites) and $299 (Infinity, unlimited sites). Monthly and one-time lifetime options are also offered. There is a 14-day refund guarantee if Pro has a problem we can’t fix within 14 days. Source: Cliedesk pricing, and the Plan and features doc for what Free includes.

Best for. WordPress and WooCommerce teams that want live chat and tickets in one plugin, and an AI agent without per-resolution fees.

Fluent Support

What it is. A ticketing plugin from the Fluent family of WordPress plugins, with a free version and Fluent Support Pro.

Strengths. Its pricing page says you can add unlimited agents at no extra cost, even in the free version (pricing, as of October 2026). The WordPress.org listing shows 10,000+ active installs and a 4.6-star rating from 69 reviews, and the plugin was updated in October 2026. Pro adds AI reply drafts, summaries and tone analysis with OpenAI, Google Gemini or Anthropic, plus an MCP server integration. Its WooCommerce integration (Pro) lets customers open a ticket against an order and lets agents see purchase history.

Limits. We found no live chat in its listing, and its AI features are for agents rather than an AI agent that answers customers. Email piping, saved replies and workflows are marked Pro.

Pricing as of October 2026. Yearly list prices: $129 for one site, $249 for five sites and $399 for 50 sites. The page showed sale prices of $90, $174 and $279, and a 14-day money-back guarantee. Source: Fluent Support pricing.

Best for. Email-style ticketing without live chat, especially on sites already using other Fluent plugins. See Cliedesk vs Fluent Support for a closer look.

SupportCandy

What it is. A ticket system plugin with a free version and paid plans that include all its extensions.

Strengths. Its WordPress.org listing shows 10,000+ active installs and a 4.9-star rating from 289 reviews, the strongest review record in this list. The free plugin lists unlimited tickets, customers and agents, custom fields, a REST API and GDPR tools, and its changelog says AI summaries, reply drafting and reply polishing are free. It describes an AI agent that answers from your knowledge base and creates tickets for anything it can’t resolve. Paid extensions include WooCommerce (order selection and history in tickets), email piping (IMAP, Gmail, Microsoft Exchange) and SLAs.

Limits. We found no live chat with human agents in its listing. The listing doesn’t say which AI provider the chatbot uses, and it is not fully clear which AI features are free and which are paid, so check before you rely on them.

Pricing as of October 2026. Yearly list prices: $79 (1 site), $149 (5 sites) and $299 (20 sites). Lifetime list prices: $249, $499 and $999. The page showed sale prices of about half these amounts. Source: SupportCandy pricing.

Best for. Teams that want a well-reviewed ticket system, possibly with a lifetime licence, and don’t need live chat. See Cliedesk vs SupportCandy.

Awesome Support

What it is. One of the older WordPress ticketing plugins, with a free core and paid add-ons.

Strengths. The free core handles front-end ticket submission and replies from the WordPress admin, with basic time tracking, ticket links in the WooCommerce account area, and a free importer for Zendesk, Help Scout and Ticksy tickets. You can buy only the add-ons you need, or a bundle. Source: WordPress.org listing, as of October 2026, which shows 6,000+ active installs and a 3.5-star rating from 194 reviews.

Limits. Many features are paid add-ons, including email piping, custom fields, canned responses, private notes, SLAs and advanced reports. AI is a “Smart Replies” add-on. We found no live chat with human agents listed.

Pricing as of October 2026. The listing names a free core plus paid add-ons and discounted bundles, but gives no add-on prices, and we could not load the vendor’s pricing page, so we don’t state prices here.

Best for. Simple web-form tickets where the free core is enough, or teams that already know it well. See Cliedesk vs Awesome Support.

JS Help Desk

What it is. A ticketing plugin by JoomSky, listed on WordPress.org as “JS Help Desk – AI-Powered Support & Ticketing System”.

Strengths. The free plugin lists no limit on tickets, agents or departments, plus a customer portal, guest tickets, custom fields, canned responses, reports and spam protection. It includes two free AI features: reply suggestions from your team’s past replies, and an AI copilot that uses your own Zywrap key. Every paid plan includes all nine add-on packs, among them an AI Agent pack that can run on a hosted provider with your own key or on a self-hosted model. Source: WordPress.org listing, as of October 2026, which shows 7,000+ active installs and a 3.7-star rating from 74 reviews.

Limits. Live chat is part of a paid pack and is marked as beta. The listing doesn’t state the billing period of its larger plans.

Pricing as of October 2026. Pro is $99 a year for one site; Business is $149 (5 sites) and Agency is $249 (25 sites). The listing mentions a 14-day refund. Source: WordPress.org listing.

Best for. Teams that want every add-on in one plan and are comfortable with live chat still in beta.

What about SaaS help desks?

Many WordPress sites use a hosted help desk such as Zendesk, Help Scout or Crisp instead of a plugin. These connect to WordPress through a widget or plugin, but your support data lives in the vendor’s cloud and pricing is usually per agent, per user or per workspace, with AI often charged per resolution or through credits.

That can be the right choice, for example if most of your business runs outside WordPress or you want a large app marketplace. We compare them with Cliedesk, with sourced prices, on our comparison pages.

How to choose

A few questions narrow the list quickly:

  • Do you need live chat with your agents? If yes, Cliedesk includes it free; JS Help Desk has it in beta in a paid pack.
  • Do you want AI that answers customers, or AI that helps agents write? Fluent Support focuses on the second. Cliedesk, SupportCandy and JS Help Desk list both kinds.
  • How much does a track record matter to you? SupportCandy and Fluent Support have the most public reviews. Cliedesk is the newest.
  • Do you run a WooCommerce store? Cliedesk, Fluent Support (Pro) and SupportCandy (paid) show orders in tickets, and Awesome Support adds ticket links to the customer’s account area. Cliedesk Pro also lets agents and the AI agent refund, cancel or change orders within limits you set.
  • Are you moving from another help desk? Cliedesk Pro includes importers for Fluent Support, SupportCandy, Awesome Support and several hosted help desks. See how switching works.

Whichever plugin you pick, install the free version on a staging copy of your site first and try a few real support cases. That will tell you more than any table.
